Lead engineer (B2B SaaS Scale-up)

About the Role

Our client is seeking a Lead Engineer to lead and scale its engineering team while driving technical excellence and innovation. As a key member of the leadership team, you will shape the technology strategy, ensure a scalable architecture, and foster a high-performance engineering culture.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership

  • Mentor and coach the engineering team, fostering growth and technical excellence.
  • Ensure the right team structure and hiring strategy to support company growth.
  • Promote collaboration between engineering, product, and customer support.

Technical Strategy & Architecture

  • Define and evolve the company’s technology roadmap in alignment with business goals.
  • Ensure scalable, secure, and maintainable architecture.
  • Make key decisions on tech stack, infrastructure, and AI/ML integration.

Security, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with security best practices
  • Work closely with the security officer to implement risk mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee infrastructure security, access controls, and data protection.

Vendor Relations

  • Optimize infrastructure costs (e.g., cloud expenses, third-party tools).
  • Negotiate with vendors and manage partnerships (e.g., cloud providers, AI service providers).

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, including leadership roles.
  • Proven experience scaling engineering teams in a SaaS product environment.
  • Strong expertise in cloud-based architectures, AI/ML, and security best practices.
  • Excellent leadership, strategic thinking, and communication skills.
  • Hands-on leadership approach, with a focus on mentoring engineers and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
  • Experience in risk, compliance, or audit software is a plus.
